As of last night, 30 November 2007, one of my favourite places in town, the library@orchard, closed for good...

I had spent countless hours browsing the books there, especially the Design and Travel sections...

I was too late to bid goodbye, for by the time I got there with Bryan, Jonathan and Mark, the library had just closed...

I didn't take any photos of the former National Library at Stamford Road when it closed some years ago, but here are the photos of this one...

I just hope another well-stocked library opens up somewhere in town soon after this...

Actually, the library did not want to renew its lease. The rental was kept the same for them.

yeah it'll be renamed, and rebuilt into 2 sites, one on the existing Youth Park site linking to the other site next to Cineleisure....

Okay, that's ONE thing I never got to enjoy at the library...

The headphones were always occupied, and some people even blatantly slept right at those booths listening to the free music... :(

Y close?
hi there, came across your site via google...
i'm one of the librarians working at library@orchard or OCCL as we call it. it's nice to know that people do appreciate the library and we're really sorry to close. Alas, the next libraries @orchard won't be up till approx 2010. Also, the decision regarding the non-renewal of the rental lease was made by the landlord and not by the library.
Cheers,
Jillian

Re: Y close?
Hi Jillian, thanks for dropping by and sharing with us what's happening to our favourite reading spot! Guess we'll just have to be patient for the new town libraries to be ready...

Thankfully, the library@central is quite well stocked too, and not too out of the way... :P
