shoot for the prisons...

Daydream
In 2005, I acted in a series of Mandarin docu-dramas for Channel U, entitled "Hooked", and featuring the stories of drug addicts...

A couple of days ago, I was involved in a one-day film shoot for a similar episode in a series of in-house videos commissioned by the Singapore Prison Services...

But this time, I played an ex-offender who helped a new addict at the halfway house...

Entitled "The Ring" (no relation to Sadako), it was written by Peggy Ferroa and produced by FPIX Productions...

Some of you might recognise Peggy as well as local actor Fish Chaar (no relation to charred fish), for they had both appeared in many TV productions...

The final video will not be available for public viewing though, for it is to be shown to the inmates and ex-offenders in the local prisons to encourage them to turn over a new leaf and give them support and confidence when they re-enter society...

And, of course, here are the photos that I took...

The Ring

Breakthrough Missions Halfway House, the location of our film shoot

Our young director, Francis Toh, who's also the founder of FPIX Productions

Emerging from the shadows and into the light

Fish taking a walk

Fish in a foul mood

Happier moments

Feet over fish pond (that's my brand new shoes on the right, by the way!)

Just for the records...

From the camera's perspective...

Fish measuring photo frame

Fish framed

Fish, Winnie (Creative Director of FPIX) and Edric

The halfway house's artists' workshop

Fish with David (Director of Photography)

Preparing a scene...

Still preparing the scene...

Edric and Fish on camera

Again, but with flash...

Residents of the halfway house performing a song for the shoot

Breakthrough Missions Halfway House compound

According to Peggy, this was a former school, and our PM Lee H. L. used to study here...

Another view...

The corridor leading to the bunks

Another corridor shot...

Do we look like residents of the halfway house?

For the sake of the film, hopefully yes...

Bunks

And more bunks

Camera equipment

Fish having a studious moment

Fish writing a love letter to Mrs Fish

And (you can't really see it but) this is the ring (from the title of the film)

Me and one of my fave theatre persons, Peggy Ferroa, who wrote all the stories in this series of films

How often do you see the scriptwriter actually make the effort to appear on the set of a film shoot?

Peggy in full comedienne mode

While I took a moment to rest my feet and still my thoughts

I've no idea what to caption here...

Cast and Crew of "The Ring"

All in all, it was a straightforward but fun shoot, and I hope to work with these guys again soon...

The day after this, I was involved in a new TV commercial that won't be shown here for the local public either, but that's for the next entry... :-)
