For the past year or so, I had been submitting illustrations to " I-Weekly" magazine to accompany Bryan Gan's popular " Wellness" articles, on a weekly basis... From this week onwards, " I-Weekly" has adopted a newer layout and format, and my illustrations had to follow suit. So I adapted and switched drawing style and the resulting page is now appearing in this week's issue... Additionally since last week, some of the older drawings and writings were re-compiled and re-published in " UW" magazine... It's always great to see the fruits of my labour appear in print, especially in these popular local Chinese magazines! These are the drawings I did for this week's issue... Pardon the quality of these pics, as I took these with my camera instead of using a scanner... For those keen to learn more about Bryan's health and beauty tips, or attend one of his very informative workshops, do visit his blog at: http://bryanomhealth.blogspot.com ...

Hey folks, it's been a couple of weeks since I last updated this blog, and although I have plenty to write about and lots of photos to share, I hardly know where to begin... After my Phuket trip, I had been busy sorting out the pics I took there (will post them up soon), and also getting prepared for my next travel destination: Japan! From 1st Feb (today) to 7th Feb (first day of the Lunar New Year), I will be following my good friend Katrina and her family and friend on a 7D Hokkaido Delights Tour by ANA Tours... Here is our itinerary: http://www.fch.com.sg/htm/hdl.htmI heard that Japan is freezing right now, and it could possibly go below -30degC at the mountains of Sapporo!!! Because of this, I'd spent the past few weeks buying a whole new set of winter wardrobe, from tuques (beanies), down jackets, scarves, woolen socks, to long johns and even a new 25" luggage... I think I'm all set... By the way, Sapporo is famous for its annual Sapporo Snow Festival with its popular and magnificent ice sculptures... I am just as excited about their well known therapeutic and relaxing onsens (hot springs)... I also can't wait to experience being "lost in translation" in Tokyo city, although I'll only get to spend less than 2 days there... Still, I'll be back in Singapore just in time for a scrumptious Chinese New Year dinner at my auntie's place on 7th Feb, and that is also an event I wouldn't want to miss! My flight tonight is at 11.25pm, but I doubt I can sleep from all the excitement... I'll have my phone in case anything urgent arises (like money coming in!! or new job offers!!), but PLEASE do not send me any Chinese New Year greetings messages okay? In the meantime, since I won't be online for the next seven days (not going to bring my laptop there), I would like to wish all of you in advance: I'd originally created the above auspicious greeting artwork for my friend Bryan's Omhealth blogs ( Here and Here), but do feel free to use this version for your desktop or mobilephone wallpaper if you think it'll look nice there... :-) See ya all in a week's time!!! HUAT AH!!! :-)

After a decade of hardwork giving aromatherapy, beauty and health workshops, my best friend Bryan Gan has earned lots of supporters and fans... Besides appearing regularly on air ( Love 97.2FM) or on TV, he mostly gave workshops to corporate agencies or private organisations, or at the Civil Service Club... Throughout this decade, I'd been helping Bryan with his workshops as his unofficial photographer/assistant/art director, and provided illustrations and labels for his Omhealth articles or products... Anyway, we were both very thrilled that he was interviewed and featured in this week's issue of the local Chinese magazine, I-Weekly... And here it is: Bryan Gan Notice that little illustration on the right? That's me! :) Those interested in the article, please get your copy of I-Weekly now! :) Or check out Bryan's blogs: Or you could attend his upcoming workshop here: Health and Beauty with Bryan (Part 1) (For First-Timers Only) Date: 11 Jan 2008 (Friday) Venue: Cairnhill CC, #01-05 Time: 7pm - 9pm To register, email to: info@omhealth.com Please provide your name, contact number and number of persons attending, and state "Health & Beauty with Bryan (Part 1) Workshop" in the title.

Recently, I was engaged by DynamicWorkz to design the poster, programme book and banner for the award-winning New York-based Russian pianist, Alex Kobrin... Last night, together with Mark, and the folks of DynamicWorkz, Ian, Alex, Lynn, YC etc, I attended his piano recital concert at Esplanade Concert Hall... A big empty stage, a young pianist and a Yamaha grand piano... But how impressive, the way he "tickled the ivories"! The music of Haydn, Beethoven and Chopin flowed effortlessly from his fingers... I wish I'd stuck to my keyboard lessons during my school days... Here are the pics taken after the concert... :)

Some of you had asked me what happened to my previous daily " Nitecaps" drawings, especially those featuring my dwarf hamsters, Eeni and Mini... Well, I had not been resting on laurels, but was kept busy working on other projects since I last posted that series in early June... For the past few months, on top of other design work, I'd been submitting illustration drawings in accompaniment to my friend Bryan's weekly health and beauty column on I-Weekly magazine... This is an ongoing project, and certainly a good start in my budding freelance illustrating career (if you could call it that). If anything, it is very good exercise for me too... Here are some images I'd done that were already published on the magazine, in no particular order... The next issue of I-Weekly will be out today (Monday) around lunch time, and will feature the above " Yang White" points... When I have more time, I'll re-post these images with links to their respective health and beauty articles... Meantime, for other information on these articles, do try to attend one of Bryan's fun workshops, or feel free to drop by his rather informal but very informative blog: And if anyone feels my style might suit him or her, I would be most happy to accept healthy commissions for my original works. Do drop me a note and we'll arrange something!

This week's issue of "i-weekly" magazine featured another of my illustrations under Bryan's Omhealth Wellness article, on Page 76... Here it is...

Woohoo! My illustrations are getting published! All thanks to Bryan, whose popular better Omhealth services have recently been translated from radio segments on LOVE 97.2 FM into a series of articles for the current and revamped "i-weekly" magazine... From today, the above-mentioned magazine, together with "8 Days" magazine, both takes on a new compact-sized format, which makes it more handy and also reduced excess paper in an environmentally-friendly move... My part in Omhealth for the past decade has been to assist Bryan in his workshops. I am also his official photographer... Additionally, I had been drawing illustrations for Bryan's recently created blog (http://bryanomhealth.blogspot.com/) so his listeners and readers could better visualise his health tips and other messages... Anyway, here is his first article on "i-weekly", featuring my illustration and a portrait shot of Bryan that I took...

Again, I chanced upon another fun thing on devinjay's blog: the new Comic Life for Windows (Beta)!!! Now I can have some fun creating comic strips easily too! For starters, I found some pics taken last week with my old pal, bryanomhealth, and decided to try them out on... ... My First Comic Life ...
It's pretty fun! :) | |

As I mentioned in my previous entry on "The Eight Immortals", one thing I learned from Taoist principles is that the Universe already moves in accordance with Mother Nature, and that we need not over impose our own will, for that might disrupt the harmony of nature... Instead we should focus on achieving better results by reacting to and going with the flow of nature... I do not have a simpler way to explain it, so perhaps wiser folks here might be able to provide a better definition... In any case, this is my illustration on... .... Wu Wei ...

Firstly, I wish to thank all of you for showering me with your support, blessings and love in the past year... Also, thanks for the wonderful and some rather creative greeting smses. Although I have said I'll rather not exchange any greeting smses, and though I might not have replied, I still feel blessed with your good will and efforts... Now that the Year of the Dog is coming to an end, I wish all of you a wonderful Year of the Pig, filled with good news of love, happiness and abundant prosperity! Huat ah!!! :)

Yes, today I've lived healthily (so far). After spending the afternoon at the gym, I was totally exhausted, but feeling very much alive... Dinner consisted of something I've probably only eaten like once a year: Yong Tau Hoo (how-do-you-translate-this-into-English?)... After a surprisingly satisfying meal, I headed over to the library to return one of my overdue books (there's another one but I have not found it yet...), and then sat down to do some sketching...
Dropping off the rat race into the cat chase... Now I am home, showered and settled, I am feeling hungry again... dammit! Currently Watching: American Idol

I have had a great fulfilling and blessed year in 2006, with many incredible opportunities and adventures in my work, love and life in general! And as this wonderful year comes to an end, I am so looking forward to the exciting new year! So to all my loved ones, my friends, and all who are reading my blog, I wish you...
The above photo of New Year countdown fireworks was taken exactly ONE year ago during my solo holiday in Hobart, Tasmania, at the stroke of midnight! And now, as the minutes tick closer to the special moment, may the exhilarating spirit of the fireworks spark off new passionate pursuits and new beginnings in the coming 2007!!! Cheers!!!

Looking at the amazingly simple yet inspiring sketches of Frank Gehry (see previous post), I was reminded of my own Architectural aspirations... Almost 10 years ago (1997), I worked my ass off, saved up everything I had, and on the blessings of my late parents, I ventured off to Australia's Queensland University of Technology to study Architecture... It was the best time of my life! Finally I had freedom, I had lots of space on my own, and for the first time in my life, I got out of Singapore!!! Also, I got a taste of what it's like to design a building that could actually be built! It was tough being a financially challenged student, and what's more, school work for the final year of the degree course was no joke. I was working on my homework non-stop with little free time to spare. Worse, my house got broken into by my pot-smoking neighbours, and never got my money or stuff back... :S But I gave it my best shot, and finally got good grades at the end of the year! Of course, my designs were limited by my lack of experience and the regulations as well as the school project's specifications. But to me, it was enough to keep my dreams as an architect alive... 1997 was the year I did not perform in any shows at all. Instead, I had these... ... Sketches Of My Past ...

Samples of my final year school project... Most of my classmates were already using computers to generate their drawings, but as I couldn't afford one at that time, I had to draw and colour every line and shade by hand. But ironically, I gained extra points for my painstaking efforts! Looking back on all these drawings, I couldn't help wishing I had continued to pursue an Architectural path. But after a few years of working in two Archi firms here, and facing what most local architects do when it comes to regulations and design selection, I gave up the idea totally... Who knows, perhaps someday my drafting skills and designs might come in useful in stage set designs! That's yet another of my dreams, waiting to come true!!! :P
