It's been a crazy past few weeks, and most of my energy was spent on the play, "Das Experiment: Black Box"...
There are only two more shows left, that is, for tonight and tomorrow. So those who'd yet to catch our performance, please don't miss it!!!
Besides working on this highly intense play, I'd also made full use of my day time to be involved in two more upcoming television commercials this week...
The first TVC I did a couple of days ago was a voiceover recording for Science Centre Singapore, which will be aired on selected channels (like Kids Central, I think) very soon...
Here are a couple of photos I took at Caleb Wong Studio...

L-R: John Tan, Edric Hsu and Caleb Wong

And filmed yesterday, my latest TVC was for Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), by McCann Erickson Advertising and The Reel Thing Productions, which will be aired during the next Chinese New Year...
Come meet my new "family"...

L-R: Mr Teo (Grandfather), Yvonne Khong (Grandmother), Vanese Ng (Mother), Keena Ouh (Daughter) and Edric Hsu (Father)

Okay, I gotta rush to the theatre for the 2nd last show now!
Will post more stuff later! :-)

Saw this clip from

So here it is:
And then there's the equally fun Star Wars spoof:

Whadayaknow!
One of my earlier print ads for Starhub appeared again on today's Straits Times Money Section...
Some of you might be more familiar with the other image of me jumping for joy, but this one is my favourite pic of the two...
Incidentally, both were taken by renowned local photographer Geoff Ang...
Here's the ad:
Hope to do more fun ads like this again soon! :-)
But don't just call me the Starhub Guy...
I am Edric Hsu... :-)

Christmas is just a week away, and before we know it, it'll be 2008!!!
This is the time of year when everybody eat and drink a little more than usual, and sometimes way more than necessary...
Having been a part of the Singapore Traffic Police's anti drink-driving ad campaign over the last couple of years, may I just remind everyone again to be more careful, and avoid alcohol if you are driving...
Speaking of the above ad, you will very likely see it again on TV and in the cinemas soon, with a whole new voiceover script that I'd recorded just yesterday!
Actually I only recorded the Mandarin version of it, as another guy had already done the English version...
Here are the pics I took at the studio...

L-R: Caroline, Shu Yan, Jo and Edric

Yours truly at work...

Apparently, my amateurish recording of "Tian Leng Jiu Hui Lai" that I'd posted online sometime ago, was noticed by a studio personnel, and I was contacted to sing for a TVC jingle's demo recording this afternoon!!!
And it turned out I'd worked with the studio and the ad agency before, so it's like a mini reunion...
I hadn't recorded any jingles since aeons ago. In fact, I'd hardly sung professionally in a recording studio for ages too. My own home recordings do not count...
Very rusty now, as you could imagine. It also took some effort for me to break out of the "musical" or "choral" voice that I had developed over the years, to sound more "pop"...
But it felt really nice having another chance to sing again, even though in all likelihood they're getting a local star to do the final version...
Please don't ask me what this project is for though, as I am not allowed to reveal yet...
Anyway, here's a group shot of those involved in today's recording...

L-R: TC, Jonathan, Christine, David, Edric, Francis, and the lyricist (I'd forgotten her name, oops!)
Can't wait to sing and record again!
Jingle me more! :)

Basically for this ad, you'll see mostly just hands doing all the work, so don't expect to see much else of me in it... :)
The shoot was located just near to the snack bar where my Cousin Zhen was working, and we got a complimentary box of popcorn from her. Let's just say there was no lack of snacks... :)
And oh! I got myself a pretty "wife" too - Julina Halim, who happens to be the sister of Iriana Halim (Youyi), a radio presenter with whom I'd partnered on-air briefly a few years ago!
Well, it was a pretty long shoot for a short ad, but we'd covered many frames. And thankfully we had plenty of breaks in between...
And what did we do? Take photos, of course! :)

Edric and Julina
Okay, obviously I can't say very much else about this ad, but you'll see it on TV pretty soon...
Stay tuned!

It's been another long but fruitful day...
I collected my cheques from Ah Fu in the morning and had Ya Kun Cheese Toast Set for breakfast over at SAFRA Mount Faber...
Then I got myself blessed at the temples and then went over to Sim Lim Square and asked
spawnily to join me and help find a good shop for replacement laptop batteries...
I suffered a minor migraine just browsing through all the shops and looking at the various technical stuff on display...
Took us a while, but thanks to
spawnily's expert queries and bargaining, we got a rather good deal: $260 (including GST) for an IBM Thinkpad T42's 9-cell Lenovo 7720 Battery...
After that we split off and I went home to charge the new battery as well as my own mobile phone's battery, which was totally dry by then...
And soon after that, I rushed out to meet
dave_sg_888 and
kissingpanda at Vivo City's The Asian Kitchen. Sorry to make them wait so long...
Dinner was pretty good, as usual, but then again this is still my fave restaurant there. Here's what we had...
And what is good food without good company?
( ...CLICK... )
Time flies when we are having a good time, and soon enough, it was time to go...
And as we passed by THAT particular shop with my grinning face pasted on the store front, we just couldn't resist snapping a few shots for kicks...
( ...CLICK... )
We then went off on our own buses home, and that's it for tonight!
Another long day tomorrow, and it's a day where hopefully the whole world will spare more thoughts for Mother Earth!
No surprises for what coloured tee shirt I'll be wearing tomorrow! :)

In view of the recent reports of celebrities who'd gotten into trouble with drink-driving, and other similarly critical road accidents, I really wonder if these drivers knew what they were doing after all those alcohol they'd been drinking...
I also wonder if the "Drink Driving Shatters Lives" ad campaign that Moses and I did, that was plastered all over town, was effective at all...
Perhaps, after a few glasses of high spirits inside their system, all these drivers could see in those cautionary ads was something cutesy like...

Nitecaps #0021
FYI, THAT'S Eeni and Mini there, if you can't tell...

Some of you have already caught the latest ad that I did, but I have yet to see it myself. Hope it turned out well! :)
For those who have not seen it, do keep an eye out for this...
This "lucky draw" ticket appeared as part of the Pizza Hut ad, so these numbers might not bring anyone any prizes. But do stay tuned for more, as there are real big prizes to be won during the CNY season! :)

I've just completed my first TVC for this year, and it'll be ready for the Chinese New Year season airing end of January...
And yes, it is all about my favourite topic... food!!!
Won't say what it is we're promoting here yet, till I'm allowed to, but let's just say this ad will definitely showcase the glutton in me... :P
Here are the photos taken with my "family" for this shoot...

I'm very very excited to announce that I've been selected to appear in my first TV commercial for 2007!!!
Got the news on Wednesday, and the filming will take place tomorrow, which is just a day before I fly off to Hong Kong for my own work/holiday! :P
Also, out of sheer coincidence, I had two separate costume fittings today: one for the above-mentioned ad which will appear around the Chinese New Year season, and one for the short film "Hole In The Wall"...
Stay tuned for more updates!!! :)

With Christmas and the New Year just around the corner, the alcohol level goes up together with the parties and festive cheer...
To remind vehicle drivers to stay sober while driving, the Singapore Traffic Police ad campaign against drink-driving is back again!
Just saw the ad on TV the last couple of nights. Wonder if the tragic-looking posters of Moses and I will be pasted all over town again this time... LOL

Cheers!

Watching TV today, I finally caught a glimpse of my most recent ad to date...
Okay, some of you have guessed it already, it's the "New Moon Rice TVC" starring Stefanie Sun!!!
Now see if you can spot me smiling in there somewhere. Just don't blink! :P
Also, a feature film in which I played a very minor role sometime ago is finally scheduled for an official screening in Singapore on 11th January 2007!!!
It's a local and HK joint movie production called "One Last Dance"...

This is one film you don't want to enter late at the screening, for I appear at the start of the whole movie as a cop interrogating a crime suspect played by local actor Wu Kai Shen, and shared some screentime with HK veteran Ti Lung and Mediacorp actor Zzen Chang...
Here's a look back at my old blog entry on the day of shooting: http://www.tabulas.com/~Merman/589275.ht
And the photos are here: http://www.tabulas.com/~Merman/gallery/3
And the IMDB Movie Website for "One Last Dance" is at: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0445609/
Can't wait to see it! :)

Congratulations, Sis! :)

Another good news is that a previous TV ad that I did last year, will be screened again next year, this time in Thailand!
It also means being paid again without doing anything this time! Yayness!

This was supposed to be my 3-month hiatus from work, but I simply cannot resist taking on yet another TV commercial, my 12th to date...
This time I am appearing as a music producer with a local mega star (don't ask, you'll find out soon enough!), along with two other talents, Fiona and Lester...
Ours was a very short scene, and despite the hour plus wait, took us only about 15-30 mins to actually film it...
Here are the pics taken during this brief shoot...

Lester, Edric and Fiona
( Click Here For More Photos... )

Fiona, with Director Kelvin Tong, Producer Leon Tong, me, and Lester behind
This ad will be screened very soon, so do look out for it come early December! :)
We ended the shoot at about 3.30am, and Lester, Fiona and I ended up at a 24-hr coffee shop near my place for supper. Alas, the food stalls were all closed by then. Lester got boiled eggs while I bought Kimchi Ramen cup noodles from the nearest 7-11, better than nothing...
Now I am still full, and wide awake... :S

Yes, if there's anyone who loves life wholeheartedly, it'll be me! *big grin*
So bear with me while I gush on excitedly...
Thank you, all of you who've commented and enjoyed my latest commercial, the Starhub Brand Commercial "I Am A Hub" TVC! It's definitely one of my fave projects ever!
Those who are overseas or do not wish to turn on their TV sets, you can now watch the video on http://www.starhub.com/iamahub/, just click on "Watch This!", do a right click and select "Zoom In"...
I've done some screen captures of the ad from the website's video clip too, and here they are...

I've already posted some pics taken in between filming, and coming next are the photos taken during the shoot in India!!!

Oh, before I sleep, I gotta say I am pretty excited today, Tuesday, as my new "Starhub Brand Commercial" will finally be aired!!!
I'd worked hard on it, had fun with it, and now, hope you all will enjoy it! :D

Following the TV commercial that I just finished filming (which, incidently, will be airing this coming Tuesday all over town!), I did a photo shoot today for the same client at Geoff Studios...
There were familiar faces: besides the friendly agency folks, the photographer for the shoot was Geoff Ang, who also directed the MCYS "I Love Children" TVC that I was in recently, and I was styled by Jerry (who had styled me for the "Heaven & Earth Green Tea" TVC)...
And the make-up was done by Sam, who was one of the make-up artists for the cast of "Forbidden City" in the previous run...
Here are a few snapshots taken after the shoot...

It was a joy to work with these folks, and I never laughed so much in a photo shoot! Can't wait to see the results soon!!! :)
